What is Portfolio Health Calculator?

The Portfolio Health Calculator gives your mutual fund portfolio a health score from 1–10 across five dimensions: Diversification (are you spread across asset classes?), Risk Balance (is equity/debt mix appropriate?), Cost Efficiency (are you in low-cost direct/index funds?), Liquidity (can you access funds quickly?), and Concentration (are any single funds too large a share?). Enter your fund types and allocation percentages to get an instant health diagnosis. This is a simplified educational tool — FundSageAI computes a more precise score from your actual CAS statement.

How to use this tool

1

Add each fund with its category (Large Cap Index, Mid Cap, Debt Fund, etc.) and allocation %.

2

Ensure allocations sum to 100% for accurate scoring.

3

View the Health Score out of 10, dimension scores, radar chart, and health alerts.

4

Address any red-flag alerts first (sector concentration, excessive small-cap, etc.).

The Formula

Health Score = Weighted average of dimension scores (out of 10):
- Diversification (30%): based on asset class spread and HHI
- Risk Balance (20%): large-cap anchor presence
- Cost Efficiency (25%): estimated expense ratio
- Liquidity (15%): redemption timeline of fund categories
- Concentration (10%): HHI of individual fund weights

Key Terms

Portfolio Health Score
A composite score (1–10) measuring the overall quality and suitability of a mutual fund portfolio across multiple risk and return dimensions.
HHI (Herfindahl-Hirschman Index)
A measure of concentration: sum of squared market shares. Lower HHI = better diversification. A portfolio of 5 equal funds has HHI = 0.2; a single-fund portfolio has HHI = 1.0.
Expense Ratio
The annual fee charged by a mutual fund as a percentage of AUM. Direct plans: 0.1–1.5%. Regular plans: 0.5–2.5%. Lower is better for investor returns.
Tracking Error
For index funds, the deviation of fund returns from the benchmark index. Lower tracking error = more faithful index replication.

Key Benefits

  • Quick sanity check on whether your portfolio is structured correctly.
  • Identifies red-flag patterns: too many funds, sector concentration, zero debt buffer.
  • Radar chart shows which dimensions need the most improvement.
  • Acts as a starting point before a deeper SEBI-RIA advisor review.

Practical Example

Portfolio: 40% Large Cap Index + 20% Mid Cap + 15% Small Cap + 20% Debt + 5% Gold Health Score: 8.2/10 Diversification: 9/10 (good spread) Risk Balance: 9/10 (solid debt buffer) Cost Efficiency: 9/10 (index-heavy → low ER) Liquidity: 9/10 (all open-ended funds) Concentration: 7/10 (small cap at 15% — acceptable)
