Reading Your CAS

4 min readIntermediate

What is it?

A CAS (Consolidated Account Statement) is a single statement — issued by CAMS or KFintech, India's mutual fund registrars — that combines all your mutual fund holdings across every AMC (fund house) linked to your PAN into one document, showing folio numbers, transaction history, units, NAV, and current value.

Why should you care?

Without a CAS, you only see each AMC's statement in isolation — easy to lose track of folios opened years ago or through different platforms. A CAS is the definitive, complete source of what you actually own, and it's the starting point for checking overlap, allocation, and true returns.

Real-life example

An investor requests a CAS covering all folios linked to their PAN and discovers about ₹2 lakh invested across 6 old folios from SIPs started years ago through different apps and advisors — holdings they'd genuinely forgotten about and hadn't included in any of their own portfolio tracking.

Common mistakes

  • Only checking one AMC or platform's statement, missing holdings elsewhere.
  • Requesting a CAS for only one PAN when family holdings are spread across multiple PANs (spouse, self, etc.).
  • Requesting a CAS once and never again, missing new folios opened since.

What a CAS typically shows

SectionWhat it tells you
Folio detailsWhich AMC, scheme, and folio number each holding belongs to
Transaction historyEvery purchase, SIP installment, redemption, and switch with dates
Units and NAVUnits held and the NAV used for each transaction
Current valueLatest market value of each holding as of the statement date

FAQ

Where do I get a CAS?

CAMS and KFintech (the two major mutual fund registrars in India) both offer free CAS requests via email to your registered email ID, covering all AMCs serviced by either registrar.

How often should I check my CAS?

Reviewing it every few months, or before any major portfolio decision (rebalancing, tax planning), is a reasonable cadence for most investors.

Does a CAS include stocks or only mutual funds?

A standard mutual fund CAS covers only mutual fund holdings. A broader Consolidated Account Statement covering demat holdings (stocks, ETFs) is a separate NSDL/CDSL statement.

Can I upload my CAS to FundSageAI?

Yes — FundSageAI is built to parse CAS statements directly, turning the raw data into portfolio analytics like overlap, allocation, and XIRR automatically.
